Masters of Education

The Master of Education degree program is designed for experienced professionals who wish to enhance their professional preparation.

Course Requirements: 36 units

A total of 36 units are required for the Master's degree. This includes the 30 unit IT core curriculum plus at least 6 units of electives.

EDLF research courses may also serve as electives for Master’s students.

Comprehensive Exam Requirement
Students must successfully respond to 3 comprehensive exam questions.

Residence and Enrollment Requirements:

At least 18 units must be completed after admission to the master's program. At least 33 units must be earned at the University of Virginia, with 18 of those units earned on-grounds. A maximum of 3 units may be transferred from another college or university, though a maximum of 12 units may be earned under Professional Development status and transferred in. No requirements may be completed more than five years before the M.Ed. is to be awarded. Exceptions are made via petition only when emergency interrupts student work.
