The Educational Specialist degree is intended to provide a broad and systematic understanding of professional education, definitive knowledge of a particular field of specialization, and the ability to integrate and apply theoretical concepts of education in an actual educational context.
The program is designed for the accomplished, experienced practitioner with specific professional aspirations. It is not designed for those who wish to pursue a research emphasis as a prelude to doctoral study.
A total of 60 credits are required past
the Bachelor's degree, some of which may be composed of credits
earned at the master's degree level. Students working toward
the Educational Specialist degree complete the 39-unit IT
core curriculum. The exact program of study is developed in conjunction
with an IT faculty advisor.
Residence and Enrollment Requirements
Of the 60-unit total, 24 must be completed on-grounds, and 18 must be taken after admission to the Ed.S. program. Educational Specialist students must pass three comprehensive examination questions. No requirements may be completed more than eight years before the Ed.S. degree is to be awarded. Exceptions are made via petition only when emergency interrupts student work.
