Summary and
Suggestions:

Baseballs' obsession with statistics makes it a great forum for exploration of measures of central tendency, range, stem-and-leaf, and box-and-whisker graphs. This activity links to MLB's "sortable player stats" webpage. It's updated daily, so you're guaranteed to have current data. After introducing the concepts, have students work in small groups on the teams and statistical categories of their choice. Knowledge or interest in baseball is strictly optional (but it won't hurt!). As an extension activity, students can find useful ways to graph the statistics they studied.
