Please use this space to submit questions and ideas to share with other Algebra teachers across the state of Virginia. You can post new items, respond to existing items, or just stop by to browse current and archived discussions. You can also use this space to give us feedback about the site. What do you think of VARC so far? See anything you like? Have ideas for improvements? Have you used the site with students? If so, how did it go?

Here's the two journal prompts for my VARC session. Thanks again for participating...have a great summer!

1. Unfortunately (from my point of view), VARC is frequently used by teachers as something to do after the SOL test. Do you think that VARC-like activities can help students succeed on the SOL tests or are they more suited to serve as the fun after the fact (be honest)? If so, how can teachers find the time to explore the context of algebra? If not, what changes can be made to allow for the use of VARC all year?

2. Think of something that you like to do in your Algebra I class but haven't yet done. Why haven't you done it and what can you do to help make it possible.

Dear Kurt,
I would like to talk with you about your availability to come and do a workshop in our city on the Algebra Website. I saw your presentation at Longwood and know that our teachers would benefit from the information and your enthusiatic presentation style. My supervisor, Martha Askew, is out of town this week and asked that I contact you. Thank you in advance for you co-operation. Julia Hayes
