By the end of the unit through the use of primary documents, class discussions, journals, debate, skits, and the use of the internet, each student will be able to:

  1. Understand the reasons the English settled in the New World.
  2. Compare and contrast the lives of the indentured servants and slaves.
  3. Discuss the cultural differences of the Powhatan Indians and the English of the 17th century.
  4. Understand the cause and effect of the Jamestown Massacre of 1622 and the Powhatan War.
  5. Understand the powers of the Church and the State of the Jamestown Colony.
  6. Identify the importance of religion in Jamestown colony.
  7. Know the characteristics of Jamestown women of the 17th century.
